Market Insights: April 2025

April 2025 was marked by significant volatility across global financial markets, primarily driven by escalating trade tensions and growing economic concerns.

U.S. Stock Market Performance

Thanks to a  late-month rally, major U.S. indices closed April in positive territory:

  • S&P 500: +0.82%

  • Dow Jones Industrial Average: +0.57%

  • Nasdaq Composite: +1.51%

The month began with a sharp downturn following President Donald Trump’s announcement on April 2 of sweeping tariffs on imports from countries including China, Canada, and Mexico. This move triggered a significant sell-off, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite experiencing their worst two-day declines since the 2020 pandemic-induced crash.

Investor sentiment was further dampened by a 0.3% contraction in U.S. GDP for Q1 2025, marking the first economic shrinkage since 2022. Concerns over potential stagflation and recession led to increased market volatility.

Cryptocurrency Market

The cryptocurrency sector also gained in April:​

  • Bitcoin (BTC): +2.29%

  • Ethereum (ETH): +3.16%

Bitcoin traded between $93,000 and $96,000. Ethereum went up even more.

  • 13% Crypto
  • 11% Cash

My risk score has reached a maximum of 7 throughout April. I have closed some positions to reduce the risk and portfolio volatility.

Outlook

While the late-April rally provided some relief, the market remains on edge. Analysts caution that without clear resolutions to trade disputes and signs of economic stabilisation, volatility may persist in the coming months.

My strategy remains the same: monitor the markets daily, make strategic adjustments, and maximise returns while keeping a medium-risk profile.

Recommendations for Copiers

If you’re considering copying my portfolio, here’s how to make the most of it:

  1. Invest a minimum of $2,000: This ensures proper diversification and mirrors my portfolio effectively.
  2. Focus on the long term: Keep the copy open for an extended period to benefit from compounding and market recoveries.
  3. Starting smaller? Begin with a lower amount and add funds later to build your investment.

Now is still an excellent time to start copying my portfolio or to add more funds if you’re already a copier.

Goals for 2025

  1. Outperform the S&P 500: Aim for another year of market-leading performance.
  2. Maintain a medium risk score: Balance risk and reward effectively.
  3. Achieve Champion Popular Investor status: Grow and strengthen our investment community.
