Wall Street rose on Friday
Friday was the last trading day because the market has been closed yesterday for Martin Luther King Day.
All three major indexes have closed in profit.
The S&P 500 closed at +0.40%, the Nasdaq ended the trading session at +0.71% and the Dow Jones closed at +0.33%.
The US stock market finished positive for the week because the big banks reported good earnings.
JPMorgan Chase said profit was up by 6% in the last quarter of 2022 and its stock has risen 2.5%.
China’s reopening
China is reopening and that could lead to a significant boost for the world economy.
People in China, for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic, are allowed to travel internationally.
The services sectors are going to be the ones that have the most positive impact on global economic growth because people will travel for education and tourism.
The aviation sector will also be affected by more travel demand.
Sentiment Indicator – Fear & Greed Index
The market sentiment is at 63 in the “Greed” mode.
The investor sentiment has changed in the last few days from Neutral to Greed following the CPI data.
FedWatch Tool – FED rates probabilities
91.2% of investors are expecting the FED to increase the interest rates by 0.25% at the next meeting.
The remaining 8.8% are expecting a 0.50% rate increase.
The number of investors expecting a rate increase of 0.25% is increasing on daily basis.
No other options are considered at this time.
The next FED meeting is on 1 February 2023.
Portfolio Update
I am monitoring the short positions on stocks and ETFs and I will act accordingly.
This will allow my portfolio to make a profit if the market drops.
The fundamentals remain bearish, so I am neutral at the moment, based on the current FED monetary policy.
However, I am aiming to make a profit regardless of the market direction.
