Threads by Meta Platform is now live
On Wednesday, Facebook parent Meta Platforms officially launched a new Social media app called Threads, after an initial soft launch to which only Mark Zuckerberg and some journalists have had access.
The new social media app allows people to post, text up to 500 characters, post links, photos and videos that are up to five minutes long.
Threads use part of Instagram’s infrastructure, so people can log in using their existing Instagram data to facilitate the acquisition of followers.
At the time of writing, Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg has written a post on Threads saying that 10 million people have joined the new social media in 7 hours.
Threads app is available in more than 100 countries and it is inevitably the comparison to its direct rival Twitter (owned by Elon Musk).
Both Twitter and Threads in fact are quite similar except for the limit of the number of posts that an user can see in a day imposed by Musk’s social media app.
In October 2022, Twitter has been bought by Elon Musk and since then, the app has been through difficult times with many technical issues and critics about how the service moderates the content so many users have decided to close their accounts.
Threads app is still in an initial phase and there will be more updates in the near future but it seems to be a real Twitter rival.
